Nicolas Sarkozy has filed a request with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) following his final conviction in December for corruption and influence peddling in the "wiretapping" case. His lawyer stated the action aims to secure rights allegedly denied by French judges. This follows his appeal in the Bismuth affair and amidst ongoing legal proceedings concerning alleged illegal campaign financing from Libya.
